Massive Update Post
In which I catch all y'all up on the Venice Biennale, the LOT-EK movie, and a sneak peek at the forthcoming limited posters for my film "Eno
Nothing Can Ever Be The Same at the Venice Biennale
I’m currently en route to Venice for NOTHING CAN EVER BE THE SAME, my video art installation with the amazing Brendan Dawes. This is not my forthcoming documentary “Eno” (that will be released early next year) instead it’s like a bizarre 168-hour-long prequel. Brendan and I will be experimenting all next week with the generative video technology we’ve developed, unleashing it on hundreds of hours of Brian Eno’s video archive and music. This should be interesting...
Here’s a small (and chaotic) sample:
Grazie mille to the Biennale for letting us take over the Arsenale for the week. If you’re anywhere near Venice, Italy, please come see it.
New Design Film Alert!
Learn to look at things differently. I’m thrilled to be presenting the release of my friend Tom Piper’s excellent new design documentary WE START WITH THE THINGS WE FIND. The film looks at New York-based architecture group LOT-EK, founded by architects Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano. For more than 30 years LOT-EK has been using the shipping container, along with other detritus of our industrialized economy, as raw material for their unique spaces. Watch the trailer:
LOT-EK’s visionary practice lives at the intersection of art and architecture. They specialize in upcycling, which is the art and science of repurposing, remaking, rethinking, reimagining.
Join us for special screenings of the film in the next few months across North America. More cities (and European dates) announced soon, and a global digital release early next year. Follow the film on Instagram for updates!

A Sneak Peek at the new Limited-Edition Posters for “Eno”
Next week we’ll be releasing a set of two limited-edition posters for my forthcoming documentary about pioneering musician and artist Brian Eno. Designed by Build, they’re inspired by the generative software we’ve developed with digital artist Brendan Dawes which enables some revolutionary new ways that films can be made and shown. More on that soon! Anyway, here’s a sneak peek at the prints:
Instead of a paragraph of credits up top, the posters feature a snippet of our generative code. They’re A2 size, and limited to 250 signed and numbered sets. We’ll have more details and photos of the actual printed pieces next week when they’re released over at Oh You Pretty Things. And there will be a few big announcements about the movie in the next month too! I’m getting excited…
Cheers,
-Gary
